  1. Monet's headache began and progressively got worse and at some point aspirins were useless. He also pains in his eyeballs and temples. After he got a backache which became worse. Some days later, he became nauseous, had a fever, and began vomiting. The vomiting also grew worse and became dry. Eyelids were droopy, making it seem as if his eyes were popping out of his head. Eye color turned to red. Skin became yellowish with vivid "starlike red speckles" (Preston, 10-11). Then on the airplane, he starts coughing up a mixture of blood and black specks. His eyes turned a deep red color. His face muscles began to droop. He began to puke black vomit. All his body parts were developing blood clots. He also has nose bleeds. At the hospital he becomes dizzy and weak. While he was unconscious he vomited a huge amount of blood and black matter. His face became expressionless. On the plane his face was changing colors from black to blue. He bled continuously. His stomach was bloated and he fell very heavy. His bowels opened and he was bleeding from his anus. He became very passive. His personality had changed completely; he became "sullen, resentful, angry", and seemed consciously lost. He was like a zombie. (Preston 15).

    1. Wow Sindervani, that sounds gruesome! Why do you think this virus is causing such a violent reaction that bodily fluids are coming out of every orifice of this person's body?

    2. In addition to these symptoms, Monet's personality changed as well. He became sullen, resentful, and angry. His friends noticed that he was not only different in his physical appearance, but he acted different. Like the book said, he began to look like a zombie. His skin was dissolving and it was filled with bruises. Monet's eyes were like the color of rubies. It was a scary scene to watch. Even his housekeeper was afraid of what she saw. Despite all of these symptoms, Monet still managed to answer any questions. He was not delirious, but he would sometimes forget where he was.

  2. The virus is causing such a violent reaction because when a person comes in contact with it, it spreads throughout their whole body damaging their immune system and organs. This causes levels of blood clotting cells to drop which leads to uncontrollable bleeding because the clotting factors have all been used up. (Preston 20). When inside the body the virus replicates and creates this protein called ebolavirus glycoprotein that attaches to the cells on the inside of the blood vessels this causes the blood to leak out of the vessels. Each time a cell becomes infected with the Ebola virus it bursts causing all the contents to spill out. This extreme bleeding occurs towards the end of the illness. The person begins vomiting black vomit which is caused by a hemorrhage and bowels with blood also comes out of the person.

    1. Hi Sindervani, let me restate my question. Is there a reason why a virus such as Ebola causes so much bodily fluids to leave the body?
